Foreign Document Notary, Apostille
We provide Colorado Springs mobile notary service for a foreign document, written in English or a foreign language, that is going to a foreign country.
An authentication certificate, known as an apostille or a certificate of authority, may be obtained from the Colorado Secretary of State (SOS) office in Denver.
The authentication certificate confirms that the Colorado notary on the document has been verified by the notary regulator, the Colorado Secretary of State. The document can be in a foreign language, but the notary certificate must be in English.
Apostille, Hague Convention
If the destination country is a member of the Hague Convention of 1961, the SOS will attach a certificate known as an apostille. See the list of countries that issue and accept apostilles at the Hague Convention of 1961.
Certificate of Authority
If the destination country is not a member of the Hague Convention, the SOS will attach a Certificate of Authority. Contact the embassy or consulate for the country for more instructions. See the directory of Foreign Consular Offices in the United States.
After notarization, you can mail the document, the required authentication request form and the processing fee to the SOS and they will mail it back to you, in about a week. Or, you can drive to the SOS office in Denver, and have the foreign document authenticated while you wait for an extra fee for expedited service.
We can also assist you with our apostille processing service. We will submit the document for you by overnight express mail for processing and when we get it back from the SOS, we will forward it to you. For urgent documents, you may hire a courier service or hired apostille agent for same-day service to Denver.
For more information, see Colorado SOS apostille service and authentication request form.
International Adoption
A power of attorney is a common foreign document that we can notarize. Others include international adoption papers and foreign business documents.
International adoptions may take many months to complete. The recipient agency may ask you to use a notary with many months remaining before the notary commission expiration date.
Immigration Documents
We can also notarize certain USCIS immigration documents, including Affidavit of Support Form I-134, Form I-864, citizenship affidavit, lawful presence affidavit, and affidavit of translation.
We do not provide legal advice.

Do incoming documents for the Colorado court, such as mirror orders notarized in a foreign nation covered by Hague convention, need to have an apostille certificate attached to establish authenticity of notary?
You will need to follow instructions from the Colorado court to see if a document notarized in a foreign country must have an apostille certificate attached. The courts have federal and state Rules of Evidence that they follow. There may also be questions about submitting a document or notarization in a foreign language. The court clerk should be able to answer your questions. Some information is posted on the court website.
